A woman on the run and a Hollywood tattoo artist find themselves occupying the same apartment in parallel realities, and must reconcile the woman’s past before it destroys both of their futures.
Narrowly escaping with her life in San Francisco, Penny Baynes finds an apartment above what appears to be a shuttered tattoo parlor in Hollywood. While sleeping, she encounters a man in her apartment. At first she passes it off as just a strange dream, but the dream recurs, eventually bleeding over into her life when she’s awake.
At the same time, Trace Brady, owner of the tattoo parlor has similar encounters with Penny, as he is occupying the exact same apartment. Things get stranger when a man named Gavin arrives, trying to find Penny before a group of dangerous thugs get to her first. Trace had passed his encounters with Penny off as a dream until Gavin describes her perfectly.
Learning that the realities blend through some form of sleep, Trace uses drugs to cross over just enough to talk to Penny. He learns of Penny’s past as a physician for the mob, and that she had been blamed for the death of a high-level boss. He relays this information to Gavin, who is skeptical until Trace gives him information that could only have come from Penny.
They realize the source of the curse is Diane, the wife of the deceased mob boss. With information from their mysterious neighbor JJ, who seems to pass freely between both realities, they learn that one person must always stay behind. Trace and Penny devise a plan to trap the incoming thugs in the alternate world, and to get Penny out before they can escape.
