A Hollywood mechanic’s romance with an up-and-coming star turns deadly when the actor lands the role of a serial killer, and takes character research too far.

Presley Zimmer is a mechanic in Hollywood, where he and his best friend Dominica take care of the many vintage and exotic cars in LA.
When Conrad Kopf, one of the most powerful people in Hollywood, passes away, his wife Myrna surprises Presley with a vintage Porsche, as Presley had taken care of it for years. This gets the attention of the famous, yet incredibly down-to-earth Dane Marshall, who ultimately invites Presley and Dominica to a party at his home.
Presley tries and fails to fit in with the celebs, but decides to call it a night early. While waiting for his car, he catches the attention of August Roman, an prominent up-and-comer who’s smoking a joint outside. Presley soon finds himself in August’s home, his bed, and in his life.
August lands the role of an infamous serial killer from the 90 and the role consumes him, leaving Presley on the sidelines. At Dominica’s suggestion, he arrives at August’s house to find him recreating one of the murders that had taken place at the hands of the famed Santa Monica Slasher.
August knows he was there. His attempts to avoid August fail when he comes to his garage to find Dominica strung up with an engine block rigged to drop when Presley closes the door, ripping Dominica to pieces right before his eyes.
Presley turns to Myrna, who had warned him not to get involved with the unpredictable August in the first place. Myrna agrees to help him.
Unfortunately, August isn’t done, and uses fear and sex to lure Presley to his home for dinner. Presley wakes up to find himself in a compromising position with another victim, covered in his blood and holding the murder weapon. With no clothes and no phone, Presley runs out of the house onto Mulholland drive, where he’s eventually picked up by police.
While in the hospital, he meets Wells, a seasoned LA detective, who coincidentally had worked the Santa Monica Slasher case. He questions Presley, who insists he’s been framed, before taking him into custody.
For the last time, Myrna pulls some strings, and Presley is released. Though Presley is grateful, Myrna makes it clear that she was simply protecting her investment in the movie, and that Presley is no longer safe in Los Angeles.
Presley returns to his garage to get his things and get out of town instead finding August stalking him in the garage. The two begin fighting for their lives before Presley finds a gun in his desk and shoots August in the leg.
The police get reports of shots fired, a call that Wells overhears. He immediately heads for Presley’s garage. The police find the two struggling in the garage, but since it was August who’d broken in, it becomes clear to them that he had in fact framed Presley, and he’s promptly arrested.
Wells arrives at the scene, just as August is being taken away However, just as police and paramedics disappear, Wells makes a horrifying discovery; a simple, overlooked clue that dates back back 25 years.
